Weekend Preview: Testosterone, Tempers and Terrell Owens

StoneTerrell.jpgGet ready for some drama on the field Sunday night. The Dallas Cowboys are playing the Washington Redskins and testosterone will be flying high. The Redskins and Cowboys have a storied history of hating each other. To top it off, Terrell Owens (or T.O. as football-savvy fans call him), will be on the field trying to prove that he’s as great a wide receiver as he thinks he is. Don’t get me wrong, T.O. has the ability to be the best, but he’s got to get his act together off the field first. His antics have been divisive to his teammates and have encouraged widespread criticism from fans.

What has he done? Here are his lowlights:

  • Pulling a Sharpie out of his sock as part of his touchdown celebration
  • Complaining about not playing enough in games
  • Arriving late for the first game with his former team (the Philadelphia Eagles)
  • Appearing in a racy promo for Monday Night Football with Desperate Housewives’s Nicollette Sheridan
  • Fighting with Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb

Before you decide to root against T.O., however, you should know that he did not have the most idyllic home life growing up. With everything he went through in his early years, he makes it a point to work hard and remain in perfect physical condition. If he could only control his off-field behavior, then he could go down as one of the great ones, like his idol Jerry Rice, former wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers.

I know you’ll be glued to the TV on Sunday night, so watch out for number 81, Terrell Owens. He never fails to entertain!

You mention Sunday night football. What about Monday night football and the MN Vikings, Washington Redskins game opening night!

He seems like a real piece of work! How long before he gets into more trouble....

As an Eagles fan, T.O. is not high up on my list, obviously! It's a shame since he has a bunch of talent. There is a part of me that would love to see him humiliated and learn a lesson the hard way, but I'd be happy if he just woke up one day and decided to act a little wiser and get a handle on his ego. If he did that, I'd root for him as a person (but not as a Dallas player! :)
thanks for this column! It's really great. Football is fun to watch when you really understand the game, but it's hard to find a female friendly source of football info.

Being a long-time 49er fan...it was nice to see Owens finally leave. There is only so much that team can deal with. It's a TEAM thing...not a TO thing as he'd like it to be. I'd like to see him grow up. He has great potential to be a great receiver...but the attitude has got to go!

A racy promo with Nicole Sheridan? But isn't TO black, and Nicole's white? Is that what made it racy? Tee-hee, get it?

T.O. just drives me nuts. The man shouldn't even be in football anymore. My mom, who really doesn't know much about football even knows who this man is because of his reputation.

T O has mental problems if we did not see this before we see it now, he needs to have attention he craves it no matter how he gets it or who he hurts. Look at his antics with the 49ers, the Eagles and now the Cowboys joining them he is better then all does not have to practice like all because he feels he is above...now he plays no attention, no 100 yd games nothing impresive, then uh-oh he breaks his finger and now today pulls some bogus overdose attempt trying to blow it off as a reaction to meds....We should all get it HE NEEDS THE ATTENTION and will get it any way he can. Get a grip TO you ARE NOY ABOVE ANYONE
