Watercooler Chat: Moment of Silence for Mets and Week 4 football news

The NY Mets historic collapse is unprecedented in sports. With a comfortable 7 game lead with only 17 games left to play in September, the Mets completely disintegrated and have now packed up their bags and gone home. Playoffs begin this week and the World Series begins on October 23rd....stay tuned!

On to Football.......

Week 4 -- what a week (kind of). Actually, it was a relatively tame week. The most thrilling moment was Brett Favre breaking Dan Marino's career touchdown record. This means that Brett Favre has thrown more touchdown passes than any other quarterback in history. He broke it on a slot pass to second-year receiver Greg Jennings, marking his 421st Touchdown Pass!!! But you never know how long these records will stand. For example, Joey Harrington (QB Atlanta Falcons) has thrown 76 TDs in his 6-year career. At this pace, he will easily break Favre's record in 2030. However, Favre is only 4 games in so far, and will surely throw more this season, so Joey might not break Favre's record until around 2031 or 2032.

In some other notes of interest:

The Buffalo Bills, behind rookie QB Trent Edwards, got their first (and last) win of the season. (Buffalo 17, NY Jets 14)

The Cleveland Browns apparently... have an offense. There was a lot of hype that Cleveland would make Brady Quinn, the alpha-male, Notre Dame phenom, their quarterback early this season, but, out of nowhere, Derek Anderson has been explosive at the QB position. And he ripped apart the famous Baltimore defense this weekend. Until he cools off, Brady Quinn will continue to hold the clipboard. (Cleveland 27, Baltimore 13)

The greatest show on turf' offensive juggernaut that is the St. Louis Rams......... stinks. They can't do ANYTHING on offense, and were completely mauled in Dallas. And, the Cowboys QB, Tony Romo is ON FIRE. I just wish I had him on my fantasy team (42 points his first week and 37 this week....it's a little painful). (Dallas 35, St. Louis 7)

It's all depressing for Miami. Not only did they lose their 4th game of the season (yes, that means they are 0 and 4), but they had their former QB, Daunte Culpepper show them up by running for 3 TD's and throwing for 2. (Oakland 35, Miami 17)

Pittsburgh is no longer undefeated, falling prey to the 'Any Given Sunday' rule as they lost to the Arizona Cardinals. Yes, the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona backup QB Kurt Warner replaced an uncomposed Matt Leinart in the second half to help save the day, but then Leinart gained his confidence and came back in the fourth quarter to score again. (Arizona 21, Pittsburgh 14)

Oh, and if you haven't had a good laugh in a while, may I suggest watching any highlights you can find from the Seattle/San Francisco game. There is just something so funny about QB Trent Dilfer getting sacked over and over. He came in for an injured Alex Smith, and it looked as though he thought he was playing in some kind of senior charity game for former Super Bowl MVPs. No Trent, you're in a REAL NFL GAME -- WATCH OUT!!!! (Seattle 23, San Francisco 3)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Monday night match-up between New England and Cincy. My money is on Cincy........ to lose by a lot of points.
