Watercooler Chat: Torre out, Brady the Best
Baseball News
After all the speculation all week, the blow finally came. Torre ended his 12 year reign with the Yankees. The Steinbrenners' offered him a one year $5 million offer with incentives for post season performance, but Torre found that insulting.
Watercooler Discussion: What do you think about Torre leaving? And, whom do you think can replace him?
Indians blew a 3 game to 1 lead and the Boston Red Sox are now advancing to the World Series (for the 11th time in team history) against the Colorado Rockies.
On to Football
Week 7 was simply a mind-blowing week. We saw things you may never see again this NFL season, or ever for that matter. Let's run through 'em:
Against the Miami Dophins, Tom Brady threw 5 (effortless) TD passes in the FIRST HALF!!! Do you realize how difficult this is?! There are several starting QBs who have yet to throw 5 TD passes THIS WHOLE SEASON!!! (Okay, this isn't true, but if you told the casual football fan that Tom Brady threw for 5 TDs in the first half of a game, and Joey Harrington has yet to throw 5 TDs all season... they'd definitely believe you). Anyway, it looks like the Pats don't even have to try anymore. Their confidence has reached peak level. I'd liken the Patriots to 'the guy who isn't afraid to make a move'; and the rest of the league -- 'the guy who asks if he can kiss you'. (New England 49, Miami 28)
It appears that the Lions actually have a running game, as Kevin Jones kept them moving forward with 76 yards and a TD. They've been waiting for a running game since their Hall-of-Fame Running Back Barry Sanders retired in 1997. Patience is a virtue, people. (Detroit 23, Tampa Bay 16)
Tennessee kicker, Rob Bironas, kicked an NFL record 8 field goals in one game!!!! You have no idea how exciting it was for fans to watch so many field goals. That's what football is all about -- field goals. I'm sure all that field goal talent will come in handy for Tennessee when they face New England in the AFC Championship game. They should make up the T-shirts now -- "We're gonna KICK... the S%$@ out of New England". (Tennessee 38, Houston 36)
Priest Holmes was back on the field for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was absolutely unstoppable in his prime, and a fantasy football 1st overall pick between 2002 - 2005. He's been training to come back to football all season. Yesterday -- he got his chance against the Oakland Raiders. And the Chiefs won the game, all on the heroic shoulders of Priest Holmes' 4 carries for 9 yards... and (negative) 6 receiving yards. (Kansas City 12, Oakland 10)
Pittsburgh and Denver had a shootout on NBC Sunday Night Football. Did you know this? Denver led early on, but Pittsburgh battled back to tie the game at 28. Did you know that? However, it wasn't enough, as Denver won the game on a last second, 48-yard field goal by Jason Elam. Were you aware of said event? "No?" -- you were probably watching the Red Sox/Indians Game 7.
