Watercooler Chat: Bonds may go to jail, Williams off the pot, and ARod very big deal
Well, it finally happened. After 4 years of speculation, with almost everyone in the world believing he was guilty anyway, Barry Bonds was finally indicted on federal perjury and obstruction of justice charges. For years Bonds claimed that he did not knowingly use performance enhancing drugs. According to the Federal Grand Jury (who's a big deal in this country) evidence emerged that showed positive tests for anabolic steroids. Bonds now faces 4 counts of perjury and 1 count of obstruction of justice. If he's found guilty, he could go to jail for 30 years and pay a million dollar fine. Very few people actually seem to like Barry Bonds (even his former San Francisco fans) so it's doubtful you'll be hearing a lot of sympathy for him.
In other drug related news, running back Ricky Williams, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, came back from his 1 1/2 year suspension and was reinstated on the team. Williams tested positive for marijuana at least 4 times since he was acquired by the Dolphins in 2002. In interviews with him after he was suspended, he seemed completely apathetic and didn't seem to care that he had flushed his career down the drain. Now, he's saying he misses football and can't wait to get back on the field. With the Dolphins at 0-9 this season, they really have nothing to lose by re-signing him. Maybe this will turn their season around? Ouch! I just fell out of my chair laughing!
In more baseball news (lots happened in a few days), Alex Rodriguez (ARod) re-signs with the NY Yankees for a 10 year deal worth anywhere from $275 to $300 million dollars. After weeks of saying he's leaving the team (announcing it during the world series in fact), he really angered NY fans (not a smart thing to do) but now all seems to be forgiven and he's back and ready to break records.
And, finally, I had a dream last night about Peyton Manning (no, nothing like that...in fact, can't remember what it was about) but he seemed very happy and relaxed and confident, so I'm thinking he's going to have a great game this weekend against Kansas City.
