Watercooler Chat: Super Bowl 41.5

Patriots v. Colts, the match-up that everyone anticipated even before the season started. Defending Super Bowl Champs v. Future Defending Champs. And then, they got what they wanted -- the best two teams going at it in the middle of the season. It was dubbed (by the creative genius Boomer Esiason) "Super Bowl 41.5". And it entertained throughout. Lead changes, strong defense, and you really got the sense that these two teams hated each other. This is probably the 2nd strongest rivalry in sports right now (No. 1 being the historic Boston Red Sox/Colorado Rockies rivalry, but that one's a bit lopsided in current day). This game was in Indianapolis, home to the league's most obedient fans. Seriously, its the only stadium that actually gets quiet during the home team's offense possessions because they want to make sure Peyton Manning can clearly communicate all his audibled plays with all that annoying... cheering. Sometimes, Peyton even quiets the crowd because he can't hear himself think. And ya know what, they do it. Just very polite, respectful fans. It's the only stadium where cheering is a disservice to the home team. You gotta love Indianapolis, where fans pay $100 a ticket to keep quiet.

Anyway, the Colts led going into the half, and even going into the 4th quarter, but then The Patriots gained the lead back... and seemingly with ease. Seriously, it looked kinda easy for them. Like they could have done this all game, but wanted to challenge themselves -- keep the game close for ratings. Anyway, the Patriots prevailed. I didn't really care who won the game as long as Manning had a good game (he's my fantasy football QB). His quarterback sneak for a TD (good), his last 4th quarter interception (bad). (New England 24, Indianapolis 20).

The San Diego Chargers were involved in two of the most impressive defensive performances of the day...one bad, one good! The San Diego Chargers allowed Vikings star-rookie Adrian Peterson to rush for 296 yards and 3 Touchdowns. Adrian Peterson wound up breaking the single-game rushing record (previously 295 yards by Jamal Lewis). On the other hand, San Diego's, Antonio Cromartie, who stood under the goal post for Minnesota field goal attempt, caught the short kick, and ran it all the way back for a 109-yard touchdown. The longest touchdown in NFL HISTORY!!! So two gigantic records were broken in one game. Pretty cool. (Minnesota 35, San Diego 17)

Also, if you noticed, NBC had "Green Sunday" last night, where they turned off all the lights in the studio, playing leader in the fight against the deteriorating environment. In an effort to conserve even more energy, the following teams should consider turning off the power on their franchises. Their mere existence is bad for the environment.

Arizona Cardinals (have made the playoffs once in the last 25 years)
Atlanta Falcons (Is anybody watching them? Shut off the lights, save energy please)
New York Jets (Haven't been an exciting team since 1998, that was a long time ago)
Oakland Raiders (Easily the most boring team in the NFL. Nothing exciting ever happens when the Raiders offense is on the field).

This could really help patch that hole up there.
