Watercooler Chat: BCS Championship and First Round of Playoffs in the Books

I'm here in New Orleans for the BCS Championship and it's pretty wild. Apparently there are over 90,000 people in town for the Ohio State/LSU matchup. Our Company, The FemaleFan Group Inc. along with Harrahs Hotel is hosting a 2 day Female Fan party complete with a beginner's guide to football seminar and a special appearance by New Orleans legend, Bobby Hebert. If any of you are in "the big easy", come to the Harrahs' Masquerade Lounge Monday night from 5-10 pm. and watch the Game with us!

The first round of the playoffs... in the books. Except for one game (Jax & Pit), the games were pretty (slow, unexciting, short of highlights). Oh well, so be it -- they were still the playoffs, and you had to watch. Here's a quick run down:

Jacksonville v. Pittsburgh
This game was exactly what you want from a playoff game. Two extremely evenly matched teams duking it out until the final minute. Jacksonville had the lead fo r the majority of the game, but Pittsburgh battled back in the 2nd half, and EVEN TOOK THE LEAD (29-28). But, Jacksonville had one last possession, and kicked a field goal to put them ahead, and seal the game. If only all the playoff games were like this. Now, Jacksonville heads to New England, and many experts are saying that the Jaguars just might have an itsy bitsy, teenie weenie little chance of upsetting the Patriots. It's obviously much more fun to think about an upset than to totally write one off. (Jacksonville 31, Pittsburgh 28)

Washington v. Seattle
The Redskins were coming into this game HOT. Ever since Todd Collins came in at QB, they have been on fire. They looked good in the first half, but in the second, the Redskins defense just couldn't contain the Hawks. Bummer, considering that Redskins were the feel-good underdog of the post season, playing their hearts out due to the tragic loss of their teammate Sean Taylor. Next up for the Seahawks... Brett Favre and the Packers. (Seattle 35, Washington 14)

NY Giants v. Tampa Bay
This game was a throw away. Neither of these teams stand a chance of making it to the Super Bowl, and watching them play was boring football. The Giants looked like the better team, but certainly not by much. Now the Giants head to Dallas, where they will get slaughtered beneath the eyes of Jessica Simpson (NY Giants 24, Tampa Bay 14)

Tennessee v. San Diego
Tennessee came into the post season looking awful. Their good moments were in Part I of the season. It's a real shame their spot didn't go to Cleveland. Anyway, the game got off to an uninteresting, viewer-unfriendly start, as the Chargers offense was stagnant, and we got to watch Tennessee kick field goals. Oh boy, the playoffs!! Some were thinking the Titans would pull a major upset, but fact is, the Chargers aren't really that great of a team. If they would have lost, nobody would have really cared. Anyway, the Chargers rallied back in the second half, complete with this awesome goal line reach touchdown by LaDanian Tomlinson. Take a look for yourself. It's at the 5:13 mark.

So the Chargers move on to play the Colts next week, and since the public doesn't really know Peyton Manning's wife, we really have no idea whose eyes the Chargers will get slaughtered in front of. (San Diego 17, Tennessee 6)

Ok Betsy, I have to disagree with you regarding the "throw away" Giants/Tampa game. I thought the Giants played and exciting and energetic game. Manning has really stepped up in last two games and showed that he is a confident and talented quarterback that wants to win games. For a brief minute I thought they may have slipped Payton in there! The Giants/Dallas game will be an emotional game, as they are huge division rivals. If Manning continues to perform at this level (no turnovers) it will not be the slaughter you predicted but an exciting nail-biting playoff game. I know what you are thinking, spoken like a true Giants fan. But that's okay, what are fans for!! Jacqueline

Giants did the unthinkable. That's what makes the playoffs so awesome to watch. Every team gets one shot at victory. I love the Giants not just because they are major underdogs but because they've really stepped up and grown as a team this season. There will be no doubt who I will be rooting for this Sunday.
