Baseball

The MLB trade deadline is July 31st, and the big news is that the Los Angeles Angels acquired Mark Teixeira (pronounced Teshera) from the Atlanta Braves. Everyone was talking about the Boston Red Sox acquiring Teixeira for the very controversial and always quotable slugger Manny Ramirez. There are still rumors that the Red Sox are tired of Ramirez' antics, but it doesn't appear that anything will happen before the deadline.

Even though major league baseball hasn't decided what to do with instant replay, the powers that be have decided that the Little League world series will use instant replay. Good to know that at least the 12 year olds will have a fair game.

Olympics

We're just over a week away from the opening ceremonies and there's already some drama. The New York Times reported that Journalists are having trouble doing research as China is blocking access to sites that are critical of their human rights policies.

Basketball

Sir Charles Barkley (one of the most entertaining sports figures ever) has gotten a lot of heat for his gambling, but in a heart warming incident, he recently promised the busboy at a restaurant he frequents (the Saloon) that he would provide the financial aid necessary to complete his college degree.
